Useful Second Life Tools
A collection of useful tools I've found for Second Life, usually either free or low-cost, with Marketplace links.
General Purpose / Multi-Function
- Avatar Testing and Visualization Kit from Tavatar
- Helps you visualize which bones are being animated, where attachment points are, helps you test joints and weight painting, etc - there is a LOT in this, please read the description!
- Tavatar has a bunch of other handy building tools including SafetyPin, Bento Tail Adjuster (Fullperm), and this color picker widget for scripters / HUD builders
- TMT Pose Stand from Tikuf Arun
- Dollarbie pose stand with a bunch of built-in poses, rig-testing animations, and adjustments
Animations
- AnyPose Expression from Phate Shepherd Creations
- I use this for one specific feature: the eye control. It lets you lock your eyes facing forward - very helpful for keeping them still while working on them - or look around to make sure your eyes don't clip.
- Most of the other functions aren't used very much / at all anymore; they used the old non-bento LL avatar expressions and hand poses
- SKNK Eye Poser HUD from SKNK
- Specifically for eye control, allows for fine-tuned eye positions and independent left/right eye poses
- Bento Hand Position HUD from Set to Stun
- 25 Bento hand poses, controlled via HUD
- Bento Hand Animator 2 from Immersion
- Subtle Bento hand animations, very useful for when you're using older animations that don't include Bento hand control.
- Caveat: These animations are Priority 6, so if you use this with an AO that has Bento hand animations, these animations will take priority.
- I have the linked version. The store offers other hand animators that accomplish similar tasks - I do not know if they are also Priority 6.
Camera
- Eve n Better Camera Assistant HUD from [ EnB ] Dance HUDs and Animations
- Really simple camera locking tool. Put your camera where you want it, hit "Set", do what you gotta do, then hit "Release" when you're done. Handy for getting clips of walk cycles and stuff where you have to actually move for something to happen, but don't want your camera to follow you.
- Camera Control HUD from Razor Tech
- Lets you record set camera positions and cycle between them. Very useful if you have a photo-booth set up and want your camera at the exact same angle every time.
- The linked version is no-copy; there is a full-perm version available in the store.
Packaging
- SKNK Creator Unpacker HUD from SKNK
- Free and easy to set up unpacker HUD. Includes configurable buttons for Marketplace, Inworld Store, Group, and Caspervend Redeliveries in addition to the unpacker functions.
